Sulphur Point, Rotorua Pilgrim Geese

The Pilgrim goose is known for being calm, sweet-tempered, personable,rugged, quiet, docile, good foragers and excellent natural parents.
Most strains of Pilgrims, hand reared, are exceptionally tame.
 They are also very self-sufficient if left to their own devices - good grazers with a strong flocking instinct.

 Pilgrim geese were originally domesticated for various purposes and are useful for Watchdogs - they will alert you to visitors and intruders. 

Geese are unlikely to attack your visitors, but they will call out to attract your attention. They  are fascinating, hardy and long-lived creatures that can give you  hours of entertainment and pleasure.

In certain parts of the world we are endangered, but not here because there are so many lovely places to live and eat where food is plentiful. 

We have rituals

In the morning we go for a swim. We then walk to the golf course for a grass and dandelion breakfast.

Then we go back to the shore and spend hours cleaning and preening

We like sitting on rocks, being peaceful and looking at all the chaos that is going around about us with the restless seagulls. 

We drink a crazy amount of water and it's a good thing there is so much of it in and around Rotorua 

 We are generally pretty friendly and curious, especially if you come bearing bread.
 We are not supposed to be fed but some visitors can't resist. 
Bread is ok, it's not our favourite, we prefer grass  from the golfcourse and weed from the lake 

You can guarantee we will come up close if you just sit down for a while peacefully (with some bread) when we are in the preening mood. 
If you stay long enough with us you will catch some of our spirituality. 
You will leave fluffy and happy after your goose meditation and your heart will feel lighter and happier
